Metric domed acorn nuts, DIN 1587, are internally threaded nuts with a dome top. While domed acorn nuts tighten fastener joints as standard nuts do, they also cover the threaded end of the fastener providing a safe cover and more finished appearance. There are some cap nuts, referred to as push-on cap nuts that serve the same purpose on unthreaded rods.
